In Suffolk, a bingo caller has been advised to stop using phrases such as 'legs 11' and 'two fat ladies 88' because players might take offence. John Sayers, who also works as a councillor, was told Sudbury town council could be sued for his politically incorrect language.



Political parties celebrate bingo clubs
Posted on December 22nd 2009The Welsh and Scottish nationalist parties have thrown their weight behind the bingo industry. Spokespeople for Plaid Cymru and the Scottish National Party praised bingo clubs for the contribution they made to local communities. Furthermore, they declared that the recent tax cut does not go far enough and called for bingo club duty to return to 15 per cent.



Buckingham Bingo Bradford named Yorkshire's luckiest club
Posted on December 14th 2009Buckingham Bingo Bradford has been singled out as the luckiest bingo club in Yorkshire. It comes after club members scooped huge cash prizes three nights in a row. The first winner picked up a fantastic early Christmas present when she walked away with nearly £25,000. The next day saw a £12,000 win, followed rapidly by a further £500 payout.

Bucky Bingo in the running for online bingo prize

The website, which re-launched in August 2009, is in the running for the top gong at the WhichBingo UK Site of the Year awards. Members of the public decide the overall winner in the Website of the Year category, although the results will not be known until January 2010.



Six decades of service from brass band bingo man
Posted on November 30th 2009A former Buckingham Bingo handyman is a lesson to us all. Gordon Woollacott, who fixed bingo machines at Buckingham Stardust Bingo Corby, has been teaching children to play brass instruments for free since the 1950s. More than 45 pupils have received a musical education thanks to his selfless public service. Mr Woollacott has pledged to keep teaching till he's 100.



Thriller at Buckingham Bingo Bootle
Thrills and chills were guaranteed at Buckingham Bingo Bootle over Halloween. Members of staff – dressed as witches, skeletons and Michael Jackson – delighted bingo club regulars with a rendition of Thriller. Chilling decorations were also on display around the reception desk, bar and stage. But it wasn't the only thrilling theme party recently.



Sumo meets bingo in Preston
Posted on October 30th 2009Buckingham Bingo Preston was the unlikely venue for a sumo-cycling session last week. Staff members Kerry and Dave donned sumo wrestler suits before helping to cycle the distance between Buckingham Bingo clubs on an exercise bike. Leg-waxing and charity bingo sessions were also on the bill as the club raised more than £2,300 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. It marks the end of a hectic few weeks in Preston. Last month, two long-serving employees got married six years after first meeting in the Buckingham Bingo club.



First-time player scoops £29k at Didsbury
Posted on October 22nd 2009The National Bingo Game jackpot has just been scooped by a woman playing her first ever bingo session. In an astonishing turn of events, the bingo newcomer won more than £29,000 after calling on just 38 numbers. It all happened during Buckingham Bingo Didsbury's weekly Tennertainment extravaganza, where bingo is followed by top-draw cabaret. The latest act confirmed will be a tribute to Girls Aloud (real group pictured left), who will be appearing on Friday, 6 November.



Bingo for Breakthrough Week hits full stride
Posted on October 20th 2009Breakthrough Week is underway and already the donations are flooding in. Here, we look at some of the charity events that have been taking place in bingo clubs, including a sizeable contribution from one very generous player at Bootle. Breakthrough Week is part of Buckingham Bingo's pledge to raise at least £20,000 during 2009 for Breakthrough for Breast Cancer, a leading UK charity dedicated to combating the disease.
