Buckingham Bingo Clubs support Breakthrough for Breast Cancer
Bingo for BreakthroughBuckingham Bingo's Breakthrough Week is now underway, with stories of all the fantastic fundraising that has already been taking place in clubs starting to flood in.
The charity week (19 – 25 October) is part of Bucky's pledge to raise at least £20,000 during 2009 in support of Breakthrough for Breast Cancer, a leading UK organisation dedicated to fighting the disease through research, campaigning and raising awareness.
Here, we collect some examples of the charitable happenings which have been going on in several Buckingham Bingo clubs.
Bradford
Staff at Buckingham Bingo Bradford (pictured) were eager to get into the fundraising spirit – they started selling strawberry-flavoured treats from their special pink chocolate fountain almost a fortnight before the official start of Breakthrough week. Reaction to the chocs has been positive ("They are bloody gorgeous!" said the first customer to try one), which is just as well since all money raised from their sale goes straight to charity.
Huyton
Back at the end of August, staff and members at Buckingham Bingo Huyton held a Pink Tea Party to raise funds for Breakthrough. Everyone dressed in pink and enjoyed sandwiches, cake, a quiz and of course some prize bingo games. Altogether, they raised £631 on the day. A month later, club manager David Rhodes and others trekked up Mount Snowdon, backed by £500 in sponsorship.
Bootle
Two charities were given a boost last week when one woman scooped the £50,000 Bucky Bullseye jackpot at Bootle – and promptly declared she would be giving £1,000 to the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and another £1,000 to Breakthrough for Breast Cancer. The generous player, who wishes to remain anonymous, handed over the money soon after her win. Read more on the Buckingham Bingo Bootle donation.
