Ashvale Group nears £100k in bingo charity drive

Bingo helped chippy raise funds for charityThere's nothing fishy about the generosity of bingo players

Buckingham Bingo always likes to hear about efforts to tap into the remarkable generosity of bingo players.

Of course, we have been working hard to raise funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer for several years now. This superb charity is dedicated to fighting cancer through a combination of research, campaigning and education.

You can do your bit too – for every person that Likes the Bucky Bingo Facebook page, we donate another £1 to Breakthrough Breast Cancer. At the last count, our Facebook fans had raised an impressive £1,328.

Bingo plays its part in £100k fundraising drive

But we are not alone in using bingo to make a difference. In Scotland, for example, a chain of fish and chip shops has raised £99,802 through a series of bingo nights, quizzes and race meetings over the past 12 months. And not content to rest on their laurels, the Ashvale Group is planning one more racing outing on Friday, 10 December, which should push them over the £100,000 mark.

The funds will be split between a broad range of charities. These include Cancer Research, Children 1st, the Dog Rescue Centre Aberdeen, local football clubs and a number of churches.

As a reward for all the hard work, the chain has even been nominated for the Contribution to the Local Community Prize at the National Fish and Chip Awards 2011.

Stuart Devine, operations manager at Ashvale, said: "It gives me a major kick to be able to put something back into the community. I'm absolutely delighted with the total – it sets a benchmark for next year."

It just goes to show that, when it comes to fundraising, a bit of bingo can go a very long way indeed.
