Didsbury Bingo novice wins National Bingo Game
Do you remember the first time? Many bingo players like to reminisce about their first win, but one young lady in Manchester will have a truly incredible story to tell after she who won more than £29,000 on her bingo debut.
The 25-year-old woman, who joined Buckingham Bingo Didsbury for free on Friday, 16 October 2009, called on 38 numbers in the National Bingo Game that very same evening and scooped the in-house prize of £64. But it quickly transpired that she had also scooped the national jackpot of £29,184.
Bernard McGuinness, general manager of Buckingham Bingo Didsbury, was on hand to break the good news.
"The night was electric," he recalled. "When I went over to the winner to explain how much she had won, she just burst into tears of joy."
That's Tennertainment
It all happened on Tennertainment night, a popular weekly fixture at Buckingham Bingo Didsbury that mixes big-money bingo with top-class cabaret.
Trouble Amy Winehouse provided musical entertainment on the night, where £10 pays for all the bingo books you need apart from the National.
Mr McGuinness added: "It's great when our club wins one of the big jackpot prizes –and we've won a few recently.
"But to win on our Tennertainment night was extra special – we already had the entertainment laid on."
Tennertainment returns on Friday, 23 October with The Dreamboys, followed by Miss Kylie the week after and a Girls Aloud tribute act (who will be just as glamorous as the genuine article, pictured above) on 6 November.
If you can't wait till then, Buckingham Bingo Didsbury hosts free bingo games on Tuesday evenings and £3 bingo on Wacky Wednesdays.
