Sumo wrestlers go cycling in Preston

Sumo-cycling and leg-waxing were two of the more unusual activities on the bill as Buckingham Bingo Preston raised thousands of pounds for charity.

Using an exercise bike borrowed from a local gym, staff members at the branch cycled the distance between two Buckingham Bingo clubs on the week beginning October 18th 2009.

But just to make things a little more interesting, staff members Kerry and Dave decided to put on sumo wrestler suits before getting started.

Meanwhile, fellow co-worker Andy went above and beyond the call of duty when he let customers wax his legs.

And amid all the excitement, Buckingham Bingo Preston hosted charity bingo sessions every afternoon and evening.

Bingo for Breakthrough

It was all part of Bingo for Breakthrough, an annual fundraising extravaganza that is enthusiastically supported across the bingo industry.

Buckingham Bingo Preston exceeded its wildest expectations for the week by raising more than �2,300 for charity Breakthrough for Breast Cancer.

Chris Askew, director of fundraising at Breakthrough Breast Cancer, was full of praise for Buckingham Bingo.

"I would like to thank Buckingham Bingo clubs for their tremendous fundraising efforts during Bingo for Breakthrough week and for their continued support," he said.

"The funds raised will help Breakthrough Breast Cancer to continue vital research at our research unit in Manchester as well as ongoing campaigning and education work."

It has been an exciting few weeks for Buckingham Bingo Preston.

Last month, two long-serving members of the catering team got married after meeting over the buffet table.

Kerry and Marie, who met six years ago at Buckingham Bingo Preston, formally tied the knot on Saturday, September 19th 2009.
